the world famous "GYMKHANA SUSPENSION' sold only by AMX Enterprises, Ltd.
When the AMX and the Javelin came out in 1968, the handling was very good - for the times. But, by 1970, most all Detroit V-8 powered Muscle cars had a front and a rear sway bar handling package as standard equipment. This is what made Z-28s, Boss Mustangs, AARA 'Cudas, W-30 and 31 442s and other such legendary cars in performance history. Today, every modern performance car has a precisely balanced front and rear bar package. And with the advent of computer controlled suspensions, even the sway bar cars are now outdated. Today, AMXs and Javelins are severely outdated with just a skinny little front sway bar. The AMC cars do not have handling anywhere near the supreme abilities of cars of today and even do not measure up to the early 1970's Detroit performance cars with full bar packs from the factory. The AMXs and Javelin ride on old and painfully outdated Rambler and Hornet suspension, not the hot setup for a classic muscle car.
Over 20 years ago, a group of AMC autocrossers in the
Chicago area found ways to improve the AMX and Javelin to have excellent without suffering
increased ride harshness or undesirable road manners. In fact, the cars are dramatically
improved in highway smoothness and control making the car a pleasure to drive on the
interstate. And when the road becomes twisty and full of curves, the AMX and Javelin
become the serious Performance cars they should have been right from the factory years
ago. Used with modern street radial performance tires, the AMX and Javelin have handling
power equal to pure racecars just a few years ago. The Improvement is day and night!
The Chicago autocrossers years ago were headed by Larry Mitchell who developed the exact size and shapes of front and rear sway bars for both the AMX and the longer wheelbase Javelin by trial and error in competition. Larry developed a set of sway bars that are easy to install and offer a precise balance between the front and the rear of the car giving 1990's handling to 20 year old cars. The cars corner at much higher rates and with excellent control and a neutral balance never known before from any AMC car you ever drove.
Larry Mitchell has become one of the AMC hobby's most noted experts in handling. Along with another noted AMC handling expert, Chuck Smiley of California who has won two West Coast SCCA Division Championships in a 4Ol Powered 1973 Hornet- Larry and Chuck have literally wrote the book on modern AMC handling. They have a handling booklet available (free with a bar pack order) that covers every detail of AMC handling, from engine modifications to chassis secrets. Included are shock choices, tires, brakes and more. Everything you, ever wanted to know about AMC handling. The booklet, written in 1989 is called, 'The AMC Handling Booklet'.
The famous "Gymkhana Suspension" by Larry Mitchell features a rear sway bar of unique design that does not rip out of the rear frame. Other hobby vendors who know nothing about AMC handling or even handling at all sell a poor imitation of the famed AMX Enterprises bar pack, but IT IS NOT THE SAME! It-features unbalanced bar rates causing squirrelly and even dangerous handling. Above all, the rear bar they sell easily rips out of the frame and could easily cost you your classic car- and even your life. If you do not buy the AMX Enterprise 'Gymkhana Suspension', you are not getting precision handling and a rear bar that is guaranteed not to rip out under hard cornering causing a sudden loss of control and a dangerous situation. It is just that simple.
The kit consists of a front bar that easily bolts in place of the existing stock AMC bar. The stock AMC bar is rated at 225 foot pounds of deflection force, whereas the new bar is rated at 445 foot pounds, nearly double. All hardware comes new and is of premium quality.
The rear bar differs in size, depending on application. It mounts under the rear axle and balances the heavy front bar exactly giving precise deflection rates between the front and the rear of the car. The end links mount with the drilling of only one 3/8 inch hole in the frame per side. It is totally anti-rip out in design for maximum safety. It comes with all related hardware.
The bar pack is offered on a money back guarantee basis. Buy it, put it on, try it for 30 days. If you don't feel it does what we say, take it off, put it in a box and send it back to - AMX Enterprises. You will receive a full refund within 30 days less shipping both directions.
BARS AVAILABLE FOR SUPERIOR HANDLING OF AMC/JEEPS- CJ5 and CJ7 and full size Cherokee/Wagoneer. If you want to drastically reduce the roll over characteristics of the dangerous CJ-5 and 7, call us for details. The 'Jeep Pack" also makes-the full size Cherokee and Wagoneer into a superior towing vehicle, something it was not from the factory. Our test vehicle, the 401 powered 1976 CJ 7 'Super Jeep" outfitted with a Jeep Gymkhana Suspension Pac out corners a stock AMX or Javelin with tall 31 inch tires!
We can supply custom bar packs for some other 1966-up AMC cars, inquire. These packs are Custom Made for AMX Enterprises on a very limited basis and are only for those interested in affording the very best in handling that one can get out of the Classic AMX and the Javelin. Full installation instructions included with each pack complete with drawings. This pack offers superior street performance, excellent track abilities with street or race tires, rock solid towing capabilities and generally unbelievable handing improvements!
WORLD FAMOUS GYMKHANA SUSPENSION CUSTOM SWAY BAR PAK $400.00 plus UPS. Includes "The AMC Handling Booklet"
AMX TEST VEHICLE The 1969 AMX owned, prepared and raced by Larry Mitchell has been (1968-74 AMX and Javelins) the test vehicle for the world famous "Gymkhana Suspension' sway bar pack since 1975. It has won many trophies in competition over the years, always a winner. In recent years it has competed in Vintage racing at Pikes Peak and three Silver State Challenge races with speeds on the open road to 150mph with rock steady stability. Gymkhana Suspension Is why.

Bring your 1970 AMX or 1970-74 Javelin into the world of modern performance cars on the street--or on the track!
1970 UP BAR PACKAGE with high-pressure 3-way gas adjustable shocks front only - $499.95 plus shipping,
1968-1974 BAR PACKAGE without 3-way adjustable shocks front and rear- $400 plus shipping.
I have 50 sets of these Premium, gas adjustable shocks for the Front--only for 1970 AMX, 1970-74 Javelin, 1970-up Hornet, Gremlin, Spirit, Concord and all Eagles. Putting these 3-way adjustable front shocks set on "Firm" on any of these cars with stock suspension will stop the biggest enemy of AMC handling--NOSEDIVE under hard braking. Nosedive unloads the rear end of the car and transfers a huge amount of weight to the front of the car causing a major loss of control going into a corner. Not a good thing. These shocks dramatically reduce that problem.
Premium Gas 3-way Adjustable High Performance Shocks, set of two fronts- $99.95 plus shipping.
Sorry, we have no 3-way adjustable shocks for the 1969 and back AMX, Javelin or American. We do have Gymkhana Suspension Type II Bar Packs for the 1968, 69 AMX and Javelin, you will have to use your own shocks. $400.00 plus shipping.
Please note: When the ten complete handling kits with front and rear shocks are sold out, we can not get any more.
REPRODUCTION AMC CARPET KITS
GRADES OF CARPET
A lot of people sell reproduction carpet kits for all collector cars, including AMC cars. Most all tend to sell carpets on the basis of price for they know the average, uninformed buyer looks at how much the carpet costs them rather than the quality they are getting. And most collector car owners just are not well informed on what the differences are between automotive carpets and they assume all carpets are the same. So, they judge carpets on price, rather than quality and will buy a $99.95 carpet set, install it and then wonder why the color fades in a few months and holes wear in it in a matter of a year or so.
Home or Automotive carpets
are judged mainly on the "fibers-per-square-inch" basis. This is sometimes
termed carpet "weight". Take a square yard of the carpet, put it on a scale and
read the weight in ounces. For example, home carpets range from 10 ounce bathroom carpet
that is light as a feather to 20 ounce "Standard" grade living room carpets to
40 ounce "Premium" grade to 60 ounce "Luxury" grade and up to a
whopping 80 ounce 'Super Luxury" grade. Automotive carpets are similar in that the
finer the quality, the thicker the carpet and the more it weighs. Thick, dense carpets are
much more durable, more rich looking and feeling and often retain colors far longer. You
get what you pay for. But it is a fact that all automotive carpets are not the same. One
has to be careful, some vendors sell what they term "Premium" Grade and since
there are no industry standards, what they call "Premium" just might really be
better termed "Standard" grade.
"STANDARD" GRADE
Most all carpets you can buy from hobby and commercial vendors of reproduction carpets are made from "Standard" grade carpet. It is thin, with very few fibers-per-square-inch by comparison, lightweight and not very durable or color fade resistant. It is to be considered "cheap" and hardly worth putting into a keeper quality car. Often, the box the carpet came in weighs more than the carpet itself! You can hold it up to the bright sunlight and see hundreds of pinholes in it for the carpet has few fibers-per-square-inch and the backing is also loose and thin. Holes appear in it if you use the car much as dirt easily falls through it to the car's floor pan where it abrades the thin backing and destroys it and the fibers above fall out like the hair of a 40-year old balding man. Color retention is poor and sunlight and smog can cause fading within months, even if the car is kept in the garage. Because of all this, AMX Enterprises has a policy to not sell what is termed, "Standard" grade reproduction AMC carpet kits unless a customer insists and accepts the risks and shortcomings. We feel it is unfair to our customers to sell them a product that they are going to be disappointed with in less than six months.
"PREMIUM" GRADE
Some carpets called "Premium" are really "Standard" Grade. AMX Enterprises 'Premium"Grade carpets are much nicer than what most all other vendors sell that are actually "Standard" grade. You can see and feel the difference. They are thicker with twice the fibers-per-square-inch- you can't see daylight through them. They weigh more, like the difference between 20 ounce and 40 ounce home carpeting. Our "Premium Grade would be compared to the 40 ounce home carpeting. Durability and color retention is much higher. (Though no carpet made is fade-proof) They look better right out of the box and can be expected to last up to three times longer than "Standard" Grade carpets. Our "Premium" Grade carpets are in some of the nicest driver-quality and show-quality AMC/AMX cars you might see. We have had a very high degree of customer satisfaction and have sold these kits for all AMC cars for over 20 years.
"LUXURY" GRADE
Just recently our manufacturer has come out with a new line (1995) of what is termed "Luxury" Grade carpeting. This carpet would be equal to 60 ounce home carpeting if one could compare it that way. Thick, rich, very dense with a huge amount of fibers per square inch making it a heavy and luxurious carpeting like found in Cadillac's, Lincoln's, Lexus's and most expensive German and English cars. If you have a true keeper AMC car, this is the only carpet to use. Durability, looks, feel and color retention are far superior to anything else you can buy. It does not look out of place in any AMC car, and may be the last set of carpets you ever need to install in your pride and joy.
DYNA PILE
This is a very special carpet for those interested in the unique properties it has over any other carpets. It is called Marine Grade because it is mildew, soil and sun-fade resistant supreme. It only comes in a low height cut pile (only about 25% less in height than original carpets), so it does not look much different than original, factory cut pile automotive carpets. In fact, it looks exactly the same except for being slightly lower in height. It is made from DuPont Olefin and unlike all other carpets that are color dyed, these fibers are made in the color in the first place. Because of this, it can survive for five years or more in direct sunlight with hardly any fade! Up to 15 years or more in a car with tinted windows. Water won't rot it at all. It vacuums easy to remove dirt. It really looks super in an AMC car, but especially in an AMX or a station wagon where sun-fade can be a problem with any carpet. Available in 25 colors. I have had this carpet in two of my cars for over five years with zero fade! This carpet is excellent in a "driver" car, especially in the colors of red or black that tend to fade more quickly.
CARPET KIT CONSTRUCTION
MOLDED CARPETS
Many hobby vendors are hawking "molded" carpet sets for AMC cars. AMX Enterprises also has these molded carpet sets available to sell, but we do not like to sell them. Reasons are they are made from lightweight, economy or 'Standard" Grade carpeting, with all of its faults listed above. It is very cheap carpeting that is sold on the basis it is "molded" and that is meant to imply it is "better". Or, "like original". But that is not at all true. It is the cheap grade of carpeting, dipped in a resin and pressed over a generic- not AMC floor pan. If you think you are getting high quality, durable and fade resistant carpeting molded as original over an AMX or American or other true AMC floor pan -YOU ARE NOT. Even our manufacturer of our carpet line does not strongly recommend we sell this "molded' line of his carpets- if we care about our customers. And that says a LOT, folks. Besides most of these "molded" carpets sets being made of high-profit cheap grades of carpets- they are also not a perfect, drop-in fit at all- are stiff as a piece of plywood with the thick resin they use on the back to hold the shape (and because of this, they are hard to work with if adjustments and minor alterations are needed to fit good). Imagine a 1969 lady with the "beehive" hairdos of those times held stiff with a full can of liquid plastic hairspray! It is a fact that 'molded" carpets are not what some want you to believe and one customer found serious color fading under the rear window of his 1969 AMX in only six months! We can get you "molded" carpets at competitive prices for most any AMC car If you want- better quality then what most others sell, but we will not warranty them and they are non-returnable.
CONTOUR-SEWN
AMX Enterprises has sold only Contour-Sewn carpet kits for 20 years. Some of the finest AMC show cars around the U.S.A. have these AMX Enterprises' kits in them. The carpet material is hand cut and machine stitched on the backside to fit the floor pan of the AMC car. Nothing shows on the top side and the fit is excellent with only minor hand trimming. Contour-sewn carpets in Premium or Luxury Grade are still the best kind and quality of carpets you can buy for your AMC car(s).
TYPES OF CARPET
AMC used two very different types of carpets.
LOOP- used in early 1968-back AMC cars. Has a distinct "knobby' appearance not unlike small, twisted strands of rope.
CUTPILE- used in late 1968-up AMC cars. Has a "fuzzy" appearance like a freshly cut lawn.
COLORS OF OUR CARPET
Other than black, exact matches to original AMC colors is impossible today as colors and shades have come and gone over the years. We have over 30 colors of carpets available, so coming close to the original AMC color is what is done. Send a sample and we will advise.
FEATURES OF OUR CARPET
Vinyl bound edges where required. Heel pad close to original already sewn on. Fully padded as original on the back side with an inch and a half of padding. Contour-sewn for excellent look and fit of quality carpet materials. The best carpets you can buy anywhere for your AMC car. Concours/Show acceptable. Full installation instructions from AMX Enterprises with every order and a Tech Line available from AMX Enterprises if you need help and advice upon installation. A large spray can of 3M-brand Super Automotive Trim Contact Cement supplied with each carpet kit, included in the price. AMC Muscle Cars
by Larry Mitchell published June, 2000. Softbound,
8-1/4" x 10-5/8", 128 pages, 80 color, 40 b&w (MC)
"Anybody who wanted to go toe to toe with the Big Three in the 1960s
had to produce credible muscle cars. American Motors Corporation did exactly that with the
S/C Rambler and the incredibly fast AMX. Some argue, however, that AMC's insistance on
pouring its relatively limited resources into the "muscle wars" ultimately led
to its demise. Illustrated throughout with modern photography of restored and factory
original cars, archival images, AMC concept drawings, period advertisments, and cutaway
illustrations, this color history primarily focuses on the conception, development,
production, and performance of the AMX, as well as the Javelin upon which it was based.
Special models like the Mark Donohue Signature Edition Javelin, along with the
less-than-well-recieved Marlin, Rebel, SST, Hornet 360, Gremlin X and others are also
included. Larry Mitchell eats, drinks, and sleeps AMC. He is the author of MBI's Illustrated
AMC buyers Guide, the founder of a worldwide AMC owner's club, and the owner of an AMC
aftermarket business. He lives in Arvada, Colorado." $24.95 plus $3.50 shipping and
handling.
AMAZING AMC MUSCLE
by Edrie Marquez published in 1988 by Motorbooks, Int B& W 223 pages, softbound.
Good writing and lots of factory photos make this book a must for the shelves of every AMC collector. Title is somewhat misleading as the book is more about AMC in general than just the performance years and related cars. The book is heavy into 1966 and 1987 with little emphasis on 1955 to 1965. Also covers Hornet, Gremlin, Rebel, Matador, Ambassador and American history that are not really AMC muscle cars, but are worth knowing about. Heavy on the Javelin and AMX which will please a lot of AMC people. Lots of nice factory photos and history to include prototypes and AMC factory racing. Back of the book details options on selected AMC cars, 1968-1974 to include prices.
AMX and JAVELIN
MUSCLECAR PORTFOLIO, 1968-1974.
Compiled by R. M. Clarke, published circa 1988 in England by Brooklarids Books. 140 pages, b&w, softbound.
This book is made up of reprinted Road and Performance tests from major magazines around the world on the AMX, Javelin and the Javelin AMX when those cars were new. Tons and tons of information, facts, performance data and pictures. Rare road tests from Australian and English car magazines as well as major American magazines. Why try to round up 33 original car magazines and spend a few hundred dollars doing so when you can spend a fraction of that and everything in one book? Quality of the reprints is excellent making this book an excellent performance source for all AMC fans- especially for AMX and Javelin collectors. Read about those powerful 390 and 401 AMX and Javelins, see what the pros who drove the cars years ago had to stay. $19.95 plus $3.50 shipping and handling.
THE ILLUSTRATED AMC BUYER'S GUIDE
by Larry Mitchell, founder of AMC World Clubs. Published in 1993 by Motorbooks, Int 160 pages, b&w, softbound.

This new booklet published by AMX Enterprises, Ltd in 1989 is nearly 60 pages of excellent tips and tricks on how to improve the handling of most any AMC car and even Jeeps. Well written text and pictures show you how. Covered are suspension, tires, wheels, shocks, sway bar packages, steering boxes and even engine building and bolt on items. Authors are noted AMC racer Larry Mitchell and SCCA West Coast Divisional winner Chuck Smiley. Larry runs a 69 390 AMX and Chuck a 73 401 Hornet. Larry covers handling from a seat-of-the-pants angle and Chuck, an engineer, covers the scientific aspect of AMC handling and driving. Complete with charts, drawings, pictures. Nothing like it has ever been published for AMC owners. Sold only by AMX Enterprises, Ltd. $25 postpaid.
THE AMC PERFORMANCE BOOKLET
Information on performance building or rebuilding AMC engines, mainly 290 through 401 blocks is hard to find. The best sources are magazine articles from national magazines from years ago and the famous 'Performance American Style' performance booklet published by AMC in 1972- as well as the Randall AMC Performance Guide published in 1969. Finding all these wonderful old magazine articles and publications is difficult, time consuming and very expensive. So AMX Enterprises, Ltd found the information, compiled it, did master photocopies and now produces a bound folder/booklet with all this good stuff in it! Articles on how to make and AMC engine run hard and strong from those glory years are all here including blueprinting and balancing. The complete, very rare Randall and 'Performance American Style' booklets are here too. Tons of information all bound in one booklet for your library. Over 60 pages! Worth its weight in GOLD! $25 postpaid.
AMC TECH PAGES
The Classic AMX Club and American Motorsport have published 16 years of valuable information, technical and informative. This information on the AMX and other AMC cars is of great value to people who need it and for years CACI sold back issues of the newsletter. But so much has been published, it cost nearly $125 to buy them all and then one bought a lot of 'social and current event news along with the needed technical information. So AMX Enterprises, Ltd was given permission to glean these old newsletters for solid tech and historical information and then made masters for quality photocopying. Information is from club publications 1974 to 1989 and offers the buyer a wealth of information on the AMX and AMC cars in general not available anywhere else. Very valuable. Articles cover such topics as how to install door bushings, interior restoration, painting hints, original colors and options for the AMX and a lot more. If you learn one major thing that helps you with your AMC car, the booklet is a Godsend. And you will. Over 65 pages, bound. $25 postpaid.
THE AMC/RAMBLER ROAD TEST LIBRARY
AMX Enterprises, Ltd has done something that no one else in the world has done- gathered nearly 300 original magazines from 1951 to 1987 that contain genuine Rambler, AMC and Jeep full road tests. The old magazines were purchased, categorized, put into a filing system with plastic sleeves and then a computer listing made.Total costs exceeded $3,000.00! Now an AMC/Rambler/Jeep collector can buy the master listing and have what is believed to be at least 90% of all road tests ever done on AMC/Rambler cars in major national car magazines like Car Life, Road and Track, Hot Rod and even some English and Australian magazines. Covered are the darling Ramblers, the tire burning Machines, AMXS, Javelins, SC/Ramblers, SC/360s and even regular everyday drivers like Hornets, Americans, Rebels, Matadors, Pacers, Eagles and more. See what the car magazines had to say about your favorite AMC car. The listing Is $5.00 postpaid and each road test wanted is $2.50 each for l to 5 and $2.00 each for 6 or more. High quality photocopies.

ABOUT OUR STICKERS
The stickers listed here are a
combination of genuine original AMC-made stickers or perfect reproductions. The original
stickers we have will be sold until we run out and can not locate any more. The
reproductions were made with full legal permission from the AMC Legal Department in 1978.
The late Dick Teague felt strongly about the AMC hobby having the right to take up where
AMC left off and obtained this written permission in the name of Larry Mitchell years ago.
A verbal part of this agreement was that we have the decals done exactly as originals or
extremely close at all costs. We have lived up to this and what repro stickers we offer can not be told from originals. They are hand
Although most of these stickers are for the
2-seat AMX and the early Javelins, many were also used on Rebels, Hornets, Gremlins,
Americans, Classics and Ambassadors. They are even used for custom installations. An
installation sheet to show where each of these stickers goes comes with every sticker
package.

Premium Reproductions
There are a number of AMX/AMC hobby vendors who sell reproduction stripes for the early AMX. Virtually all sell Standard Grade 3M-brand vinyl. It is thin and does not last as long as thicker, Premium Grade. Plus, it can easily rip upon installation, destroying the kit itself and frustrating the installer. Some hobby vendors sell "Pre-masked" AMX stripes but do not include any detailed installation instructions. The reason is that the 'premasking" will NOT allow the simple, easy installation that is implied over the compound curves found on the hood, the roof and the trunk of an AMX. AMX Enterprises/Larry Mitchell has personally striped over 100 two seat AMXs over the years and knows no one can install "pre-masked" 68/9 AMX stripes without taking off the masking and/or cutting the stripes apart! You don't get what you thought you were paying for.
The AMX Enterprises' kit is individual, pre-cut lengths one installs one-at-a-time using detailed instructions furnished with the stripes. We even offer you a telephone Tech Line for more help if you need it. Thicker Premium Grade vinyl with a strong upper clear (removed upon installation) that protects the actual vinyl until installed, doesn't rip upon the required pressure curving needed to maintain proper spacing and lasts for up to 20 years under ideal care. This is the best kit you can buy and is priced the same as the cheaper grade vinyl kits from others.
