O.K. I've got the numbers off the block & tranny. How do I confirm they are original to the car?

Not sure if you can AMC didn't give the block it's own I.D. number to match the dash VIN like the big three. For 1970 if the block has say a 390 stamped on each side the VIN should have an X in it to denote a 390. That's how they match numbers so you could replace the block with the same and not lose any value to the car because it's kind of like swapping out any other part of the car. If there's a date code you can dial in pretty close to it being the original if you know when your car was born. There's also a metal date coded tag on the end of your valve cover that may help too. That's my take on it.

They sure don't make things easy for us, but you are correct. No sequence numbers for AMC's. Thanks for the reply
