Hi, new to the forum and am in the process of buying a 69 AMX 390 4sp car.

On the door tag under BODY there is the number R031373 what does that decode to?

Also at the bottem of the tag there is just the number 5078490, what does that decode to?

Should the car have 14x6 or 14x7 wheels?

What tires should a 69 have? redlines or white letter Goodyear polyglass?

What size.

Thanks to all for the help,

The R031373 code means it was made in Kenosha,WI
I'm not sure what the other code is but maybe this will help

I believe that 5078490 is nothing than the sequence number assigned to the car. All cars (AMC) had sequence numbers assigned to them by the plant where the car was made. These numbers were different than those of the VIN and the numbers only meant something to the people at AMC (?).
If memory serves me right, the rim sizes were all 14X6 with 15X6 as an option for the AMX's.

You can decode your VIN, Door Tag and Valve cover tag here:
http://www.amx-perience.com/AMXtechPage.htm

A '69 AMX with Go-Pack should have Redlines w/14x6 factory wheels. (Fiberglass-belted "Polyglas" wide aspect E70 x 14 red-line tires). Non Go-Pack got E70 x 14 wide profile fiberglass-belted black side wall with 6" width wheel rims. Mag style wheel covers or Turbo Cast covers could be on an AMX. You could get 14x7 American Racing Torq-Thrust or Crager SS wheels as a factory approved dealer option. The 15" Machine wheel was an option in 1970.

The link in your post to the decode page is no longer valid. Do you know if it is still available on the site. Maybe an updated link?

Hi Barry,

Welcome to the community. A lot has changing since the original post back in 2006, but I think the resource you are looking for can be found here. http://www.amx-perience.com/articles/AMC_Technical_Information.php#1968%20AMX%20VIN
