Have any of you seen the new book EXTREME MUSCLE CARS? It states "the AMX came with a racing swagger, with its only engine choices being the AMX 390-cid, 315-hp V-8 that produced 425 lbs.-ft. of torque and 3,200 rpm." and "the AMX was a potent package that sold 67,000 copies its first year or 15,000 more than the Javelin." Both claims are dead wrong, right?

Yes, that is incorrect. They were close, er, maybe not---1968 AMX production numbers were 6,725. Base engine was the 290, followed by the optional 343 and the 390. Not sure of the numbers on the Javelin the first year but I think it was in the 56,000 + range.

AMX productions numbers for their entire run of 3 years was around the 12-14,000 units sold. The first year Javelin was around the 57,000 (68) and then began a levelin off of around 26,000 per model run. Whoever the source of the information was in the article is simply seriously overstating the numbers and it showed that they did not vertify the information that they used. That's the one thing that I hate about some of the information contained in articles that editors and publishers use, the total and complete lack of vertifications on what is written or said. The editors are paid the big bucks to be as correct as possible and to vertify what they past out as correct information. It's not like they couldn't find out, it's all over the internet on various web sites and published works in books and magazines.
