    Default 1968 Tranny

    Hi

New to the forum. Very nice.

I recently acquired another Javelin. My first i owned in Highschool and was my first car. Realy had a lot of memories in that car and finaly found one that is what i always wanted my original to be. So now to my question(s)

    1) What make of 4spd transmissions did AMC put in these

    2) What rear end gear ratio and was posi an option or standard

    My new car:
1968 Javelin SST, 343 4v, 4spd (Hurst shifter) with "go-Pack, Front disc breaks, Dual exhaust, power steering.

It even has the original owners manual, in the plastic sleeve, and the red/white bag that holds washer fluid (and it don't leak).

Hi 68 and welcome to the forum! Nice car you've got there.

Q - 1) What make of 4spd transmissions did AMC put in these
    A - Borg Warner

Q - 2) What rear end gear ratio and was posi an option or standard
A - The standard gear ratio for a V-8 Auto was 3.15, V-8 4-speed standard ratio was 3.54. Other ratios from 2.87 to 5.00 were available as an option. The Sure-Grip posi was an option by itself or was part of the optional Go-Pack. An open rear-end was standard.

    Thanks BIG.

I found another thread that listed AMX codes stamped on the pumpkin. Would these be the same for a Javelin? I am assuming that mine needs to show a A code to be correct unless it was changed by the dealer.
