Default Looking for parts-info-New Amx owner

I just purchased a 73 amx with a 401 w/go pac, 727 numbers matching car with 53k origional miles. Everything works but it needs a little TLC. I am looking for an amp meter and some sheetmetal repair parts. The quarters will need repair panel for a little rust repair. The interior has the Piere Corduex (sorry, don't know how to spell it) It is pretty dirty but not ripped, is there a special cleaner I should use? The hood works fine, but the air cleaner is painted a light green, what color should it be? I plan to repaint the car with base\clear when I get the body work done. Where can I find the hood strippes? How about a trunk mat? There must be a vender I can find this stuff at. It has all the emblems still, is there a place to buy the adheives to put them back on after painting? Tanks, Dennis

Hi, the only emblems I can think of that are stuck on are the AMC badge located on the rear spoiler and the AMC badge just below the rear window. Both can be found on ebay for about $25.00 each and are NOS.

As for the air cleaner assembly (might be Ford) it should be semi gloss black. Also should be a single snorkel on any 72 on up v8 base should work the lid and cover are the same for 71 - 74 ram air Javelins.

PC enteriors are hard to get clean once they have been badly taken care of (Age issues with the fabric) thin cloth that can wear and fade as you clean. Try using Woolite (cold water) and a soft sponge, blot but don't rub... Best to get NOS replacements from ebay. I don't realy care for the PC's interior, due to the fact they are easy to fake as an orignal PC car. I did notice that Old Navy had some Womans wear a while back that looked simular in design... if your wife / G-friend is into matching the 70's look.

Don't go cheap on the restore... it will show on points or a smart buyer or even on your own impression of the car. If you plan on driving it, update the car to your needs... but keep the original stuff for later.

From what you have described, it looks like you don't know much about what to do on restoring a Javelin AMX. It is best if possible to take it to a specialist. Most cars done by the back yard mechanic as a restore end up doing more damage than good.

Second... don't ever spend money that you think you will get back, the best investments are not made with the intent of making money.
