6 cyl auto won't last long behind a 360,too much torque

Suggest that you use a torque flite that was on AMC cars and trucks though god know when. AMC started using the torque flites in 1972 on all of their cars at least though the change over to Renaults , and thats that. The Chrysler trannies are tough and the 727's are strong enough to withstand the torque of the 360 and 401 engines. Personally I would get the trans that in the car repaired if thats possible. Good luck.

i agree, fix that 5 speed and you will not have to mess with all the "unforseen" costs and modifications to convert to an automatic.besides the fact that 5 gears are better than 3 and that 5th gear should be an overdrive if my memory is correct.that equals better freeway mileage and less wear if you use this car as a daily driver.you will probably spend more to convert it over after you factor in all the stuff you will run into(driveshaft, flexplate, torque converter, transmission, linkage, mounts, etc).besides a T-5 is a good transmission(parts should be readily available).also the 6 cyl auto will be an A-904 torqueflite not a 727 model used on larger V-8's
