In '64-'65 Dick Smitley and I (Art Bockhausen) modified a prototype 232, with the help of the guys in Dyno Buildup, and installed it in my '64 American Convertible. I drove it to work daily and we raced it at Milan and Motor City Dragway. We wrote a "White Paper" for AMC to promote the car as a first performance offering. I was personally informed by Carl Chakmakian that the proposal was rejected because "The only race AMC is interested in is the Human Race!". This picture (and others I have) were taken by the AMC public relations people. It was (almost) a beginning for AMC. -Art
