X-perience AMX 71 - 75

Here are some pics of my '70. It was originally a bare bones 360 4-speed car, but I
swapped in a built 401 with Herman Lewis Racing aluminum heads. I'm running 11.5:1
compression with a Comp Cams 305 Magnum cam. It sounds good running through 3 inch pipes
and Dynomax 3 inch Race Magnum mufflers. It still has the T-10 4-speed and Dana 20 rear
with 3.54:1 gears. I swapped in a Lock-Right locker unit and forged Moser axles to beef
things up. The interior is stock red vinyl with the exception of Autometer white-face temp/oil/volt gauges mounted under the dash on the passenger side and, of course, the stereo. The paint is 1970 AMC Frost White with painted Matador Red C-stripes.
Thanks for a great site!

Hi AMX fans: This is my AMX in the process of restoration on 12/20/01. It is a 68 343 automatic Go Pak car. It is #02450. It currently has a Javelin hood. I am working on getting an AMX hood for it, but it looks pretty good with the Javelin hood. I bought it in 1978. I overhauled the engine as part of the project and installed a mild cam. It is a sweet car. I have loved AMX's since the rumors of their introduction. I have been an American Motors fan
since 1967. I visited the Factory at Kenosha in 68 and saw AMX's moving down the assembly
line. I was excited because they were building enough that I could one day have one. I
live in Knoxville, TN. My E-mail is RCWCfather@Juno.com.

My 1968 AMX #2990. But it is a bit odd in that it has been converted into my idea of what Dick Teague may have modified his 68 AMX into next if his proposal for the 1971 2 seater had been approved for production. So it is my idea of what the 1974 AMX 2 seater may have looked like if it had been produced.

This is a picture of my 1969 AMX. The picture
was taken in front of one of the fountains at Purdue University in West Lafayette,
IN. The AMX is Beal Street Blue with charcoal interior. It has a 390 with an automatic
trans and factory air conditioning. The AMX was originally purchased in my hometown of
Lafayette, IN and the window sticker verifies this. The car has 42,500 miles on it. I
purchased the AMX in November of 1998 and fixed all of the odds and ends that
usually are wrong with an old car plus stripped the car down to bare metal and painted it
back to the original color. My son-in-law Mike Vanderhoff did the complete paint job. My
son and I drove it to the St. Louis AMO meet on July 17, 1999 along with my brother
driving his 1970 AMX there. We had a great time.
The reason I bought an AMX is the fact that I had a brand new 1968 red AMX with a 390 and
4-speed plus the go package. I met my wife with this car and we felt it would be fun to
have another one.
We enjoyed all of the rides in both of the AMX's through the years. They are definitely
attention getters when cruising or at car shows.
Yours truly,
Todd R. Harrington

Happy new-year. I hope this year brings much joy and
excitement in the AMC world.
This car is a factory P-3 69 BBO 390 automatic. It
spent most of its life in South Carolina until I purchased it in 1992. I drove it
home to Pennsyvania and began restoring it or should I say "restifying" it.
Original appearance on most of the car with the addition of a 727 TF, headers, R4B
manifold with a 600 holley perched on top, 2 1/4" exhaust, oil pressure guage,
leather AMC steering wheel and the sort. Original options include the following: Big
Bad Package, remote mirror, visibility group, PS, automatic transmission,
tinted glass, and the 390 Go-pack. And man does it go!! With a 3:15 gear ratio and
radial tires its best time is 13.6 at 102 mph. The best part is it DRIVES good too.
I would take this car anywhere and it has proven itself to be both fun and reliable.
Thank-you for your web-site.

I bought this 1969 AMX five years ago from a collector/dealer who stripped it of all
the worthwhile parts for restoring other cars. It is an original BBO AMX and I located the
original and last owners to verify her 29,000 miles. The car was once repainted and left
to sit in a garage for 11 years and is need of new paint, someday. I had a great time
learning about the AMX and locating the parts to bring her back. I also met a lot of great
AMC people. She often wins trophies at local shows and cruise nights especially being the
only one in this area. It is optioned with the 390 V-8, 4-speed trans, Go Package, Rally
Pack, power steering, tilt column, power disc brakes, front spoiler, rear bumper
guards, Visibility Group, Light Group, right outside mirror, leather upholstery, center
armrest and AM/8-track stereo. It was delivered by England Motors, Harrisburg, PA on June
27, 1969. Keep up the great work with this site.....Bill Gras, Springfield, NJ
