I recently bought a 1968 AMX off of the original owner(he gave me all paper work and bills from day one,and a copy of the original title) he had the car restored in 1991. But from sitting outside the car needs another paint job and bumpers. The car runs like brand new. It's a 343, 4 speed. Also the car has 110,000 orig. miles. My car still has the original spare tire and inflator in the trunk. My dad use to race Javelins in the 70s and I've been looking for a long time for a decent AMX to restore. I'll send more photos after she gets a full restoration.

This is my 1968 AMX. I have owned it since 1979. It is currently waiting to be gone through. 343, Auto, A/C steering, brakes Go-Pac. Sorry no girls in bathing suits.

This car has been in four Cannon Ball Coast to Coast Sea to Shining Sea runs, also it has raced in five Silver State Classics with awesome Jim, Larry, Tony & Rhonda. It has a 343 cid motor, 4-speed and almost 200,000 on the clock. All the way my dad ordered it from the factory. I've had the car for 22 years now. I still show it and race it. Not bad for an AMC.

I bought the car, a 1969 AMX at a wrecking yard in July '97. I put it back on the road by Nov. Did the suspension over the winter. I autocrossed my '98 Dodge SS/T pickup in the meantime. Last year I autocrossed the AMX a little, but had oil pressure problems. This year in the second event I got 4th out of 11 entries. Maybe there's hope for us yet! This is against '90s vehicles, Mustangs Camaros, ect. The DOG pulls the Camaro SS off the line last July at the SCCA Pro Solo event here in Seattle. The Camaro SS beat the Firebird WS6. I'm still learning and need to try harder. This year is just starting. I had it painted this past Nov.-Dec.
Thanks, Tom Edwards

This is the AMX I just bought from a real nice guy in California. He wanted it to go to a good home and was willing to come down in price to make sure the car would be taken care of!! This is my dream car and it's on the trailer as we speak I haven't been this excited since I was 5 years old at Christmas!!!!

My brother told me about your site. I am the original owner of a 1970, 390 AMX. It's great to see there are others willing to put an effort into American Motors' best, despite being outnumbered by the other makes. My 390 is a little healthier than a stock motor: Melling road racing hydraulic lifter cam, adjustable rockers, Offenhauser Dual-Port intake, headers, +.040" bore and 750 Holley.
Sincerely,
Larry Honegger, Lima, OH

Hi, my name is Michael Skewes. Here is my 1969 AMX, Bittersweet Orange w/Go Pack and a 390. I bought it in '96. My dad bought a 1968 AMX, Matador Red w/ Go Pack brand new when they came out. After the first wreck and a '70 front end put on, mom wrapped it around a telephone poll and that was that (mom was fine, but mad), I've wanted one ever since. All I did to this one was new tires, Edelbrock carb, MSD box with a Mallory dist. all new exhaust system-three inch pipes, Hedman headers, 2 chamber flowmasters, new valve covers and cooling system. Now I drive around Burbank, CA and eat up Mustangs and Camaros.
Feel free to e-mail me at mdskewes@earthlink.net

1969 390 AMX. The following link has about 75 pictures on it and I add more as the car progresses. It basically shows the car being rebuilt from scratch, it might have some useful tips, etc. If you would like to look at it is at http://community.webshots.com/album/936840. The car should be on the road again this summer.
Thanks Al Peters.

Love the site. It enabled me to find and purchase a 1969 AMX recently. When I was a teenager I bought my first car, a 1970 AMX, which I totaled in '78. I always wanted another and finally got one. It's a Regatta Blue 343 auto with silver stripes and interior. I bought it in Boston and drove it back to Philly. It drives great and is a real head turner. Keep up the good work.

Here's a few pictures of my 1969 AMX for your page. It's stock with a 343 c.i. four-speed and Go-Pack. It's dark blue with platinum stripes and interior. Enjoy your site.
